    Gunpowder Green tea and peppermint.

From Senegal to Morocco, the bold roasted flavors of this green tea are steeped in unique traditions that began over charcoal fires.  Gunpowder green tea from china is the base of this blend. The leaves are tightly rolled and dried by roasting. By rolling the leaves, the tea was ideal for export, since, in pellets, their flavor was preserved and the leaves were less likely crushed or damaged.

Ingredients: Organic gunpowder greent tea, organic peppermint leaves

    1-2 infusions

    Instructions for 8 oz.: 1 1/2 tsp, 3 minutes in 175° F filtered water.

Interesting Facts: This beverage is the beginning of hospitality and a daily requirement from Saharan nomads to the formal homes in the cities of North Africa. Our blend is named after the Tuareg people, a nomadic desert tribal culture scattered across Northern Africa. It is traditional to the Tuareg that inhabit the Mahgreb (Morocco) where tea is typically washed once, then steeped or even simmered for a period of time with a significant amount of sugar in addition. Ceremonially, the tea is poured into small glasses from a foot or more above, in order to cool the brew from boiling and put on quite a show! The tea keeps flowing until the conversation is finished. Enjoying "ataya" with our friends from Senegal, we've been served lemon wedges and fresh ginger to drop into our cup.
