Charm and History, Afternoon Tea

Posted by

Galena, tucked into the northwest corner of Illinois, removes you from the modern world and takes you back into the Civil War era heritage of our country. The charming homes and businesses are settled against a wooded hill along a tributary of the Mississippi River. It will transport you back to the 1840′s.

Not to be missed is a tour of the President Ulysses S. Grant home, where original furniture and period decor connect you to the rich heritage found here in the northern Midwest.

Just up the drive from the General Grant house is the Bernadine’s Stillman Bed & Breakfast. Built in 1858, this French Italianate mansion romances you with the striking architecture and hilltop location. The kind innkeepers offer Saturday afternoon tea and get fantastic reviews for their exceptional hospitality. We were running out of time, but stopped to peek in and were pleased to find a family enjoying a relaxing afternoon in the darling tea room. It’s a must-do for a weekend getaway to Galena!
