A buttery, warming broth from rich green tea leaves, popcorn and rice.

It’s a wonderful introduction to Japanese green tea for the western palate. The buttery, satisfying broth is from a blend of Shizuoka bancha and sencha giving it a satisfying vegetal flavor well-balanced by the nuttiness of the rice and popcorn.

Try it alongside a plate of rice and fish or as a comforting tea for an afternoon break.

Ingredients: Green tea, toasted rice, popped corn

    1-2 infusions

Instructions: 2 rounded tsp, 3 min, 170°F filtered water.

Interesting facts: Almost a century ago, this blend was introduced in Japan as a way to make tea affordable to the masses. Green tea was a luxury and so toasted corn kernals and roasted rice was added to lower grade leaves. For a time, it was considered cheap tea, but over time and with the addition of finer leaves, it became a traditional staple among the Japanese.
